Shirley M. Akan, R.I.P.

(August 24, 2008) Longtime parishioner Shirley Akan, who worshipped at the 8 a.m. Mass, died on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15, following a brief but tragic illness. Shirley was diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer this past May while at her home in Istanbul. She was flown to her home in Chicago in late July to be with friends and family here. Fr. Fertig attended Shirley in her last days, celebrated the Requiem Mass on August 19, and officiated at the interment in Graceland Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
