Solemn High Mass on the Third Sunday of Advent. Traditionally this Sunday is observed as Gaudete Sunday, named for the first word of the Latin introit for the day: "Rejoice." The rose-colored vestments, a departure from the violet vestments worn during the rest of this preparatory season, express joy at the coming observance of the Nativity of Our Lord on Christmas Eve and Day.
