Stewardship
At Church of the Ascension, we believe that stewardship is an expression of our faith and gratitude. By sharing our time, talents, and treasures, we reflect God’s generosity in our community and the world. Stewardship supports the work of the church, allowing us to deepen our ministry, serve those in need, and care for the sacred spaces we cherish. If you would like to receive a pledge card, please contact the office at 312.664.1271 or by email or you can complete an online pledge card.

FAQs
What is a pledge?
A pledge is a commitment to support the mission and ministries of Church of the Ascension by giving a financial gift. It is a promise, not a contract, and can be adjusted if your circumstances change.
Why should I pledge?
Pledging is an important spiritual practice. It’s a way of expressing gratitude for what God has given you and investing in the work that our church is doing. Your pledge helps Ascension plan its ministries for the year ahead, knowing we can count on your support.
What does my pledge support?
Your pledge supports all aspects of church life: worship, music, outreach ministries like our food pantry and St. Chrysostom’s Closet, spiritual formation, and much more. It also helps us care for our staff and maintain our beautiful campus.
How much should I pledge?
There’s no set amount, and every gift matters. We encourage you to reflect on what Ascension means to you and what you feel called to contribute. You might think about giving a percentage of your income, as a way to align your financial giving with your faith.
Can I adjust my pledge if my circumstances change?
Yes. If you need to adjust your pledge at any point, simply reach out to our stewardship committee. We understand that circumstances change, and we’re grateful for whatever support you can provide. If you need to adjust your pledge at any time in the year you can email Ascension’s treasurer Susan Schlough.
Is a pledge like taking on a debt or loan?
No, a pledge is not a debt or loan—it’s a spiritual commitment, not a financial obligation. It’s a way of expressing your intention to give based on your current circumstances and discernment. Unlike a loan, a pledge can be adjusted if your financial situation changes, and there is no penalty if you need to reduce or pause your giving. The focus is on your personal spiritual practice of generosity and supporting the church community, not on a binding contract.
What happens if I don’t pledge?
While the church can still operate without a pledge, pledging allows us to plan more effectively and grow our ministries. It’s a tangible way to invest in the life of the community, and we hope you'll consider making a pledge.
How do I make a pledge?
You can fill out a pledge card and return it to the church, you can send a confidential email to the treasurer with your pledge, or you can complete an online pledge card. We encourage everyone to submit their pledge by November 24, 2024, so we can include your contribution in our annual planning.
