Message from the (travelling) Rector
Dear People of Ascension,
This past Thursday evening our son Owen, age 21, was involved in a motorcycle accident in San Francisco, as he was evacuating from the fires near Santa Cruz, California. He is in acute care at a hospital in San Francisco with serious injuries to his lower right leg. A first surgery early Friday morning will be followed by others, including one on Monday the 24th.
Brooke and I learned of Owen's accident early Friday morning, and I boarded a plane for San Francisco a few hours later. I will remain through Owen's surgery on Monday and longer if needed. Owen is, of course, my first concern for the moment. Brooke and I will be grateful for your regular prayers, for Owen and all in our family.
I deeply regret that circumstances won't allow for a mass to be offered tomorrow, Sunday, August 23. What I could offer remotely from the Formica desk in my economy hotel room here would not do at all. The timing and other logistics and concerns make it implausible, I feel, to call on one of our faithful and able assisting priests.
Please join as you are able in what will be offered on Sunday, and consider as well participating in virtual worship elsewhere at 9:00 a.m. I imaging that your doing so might be of value not only for your individual faith but also for our ongoing exploration of how to remain faithful in these strange times. Some links are provided below.
I do hope to take part, if feasible, in tomorrow's Town Hall Meeting at 10:15 a.m. Whether or not I can do so, please know I'll be doing my best in the coming days to remain in touch with the Wardens, to communicate if and when possible and appropriate, and to keep our parish family in my prayers.

'TWAA' is our parish newsletter. It is sent by email most Wednesday afternoons throughout the year, and it is linked below by the end of the day on Thursdays. Submissions for TWAA are encouraged, though subject to approval and editing. Submissions are due to the Parish Administrator by noon on the Tuesday before publication. 'Apart and Together' is the name of occasional updates provided by the Rector, starting in March 2020, arising from Covid-19 matters and indicating some of our responses.
