Service DescriptionsSolemn High Mass: Offered at 11 a.m. on Sundays
This is the fullest service, celebrated with ornate ritual, Latin chant, incense, hymns, sermon, and a choral Mass setting. It normally lasts 75–90 minutes. There are occasionally Solemn High Masses on weeknights throughout the year. (This service is streamed live on Facebook and YouTube). Sung Mass at 9 a.m. on Sundays This is a one-hour, simpler service than the Solemn High Mass and includes organ voluntaries and hymns. Weekday Low Masses offered Monday - Friday This 30-minute all spoken mass augments the prayer and worship life of parishioners and neighbors. The Daily Offices at Ascension consist of Morning Prayer and Evening Prayer, normally Rite II, from the Episcopal Book of Common Prayer. Morning Prayer is offered Sunday-Friday at 7:30 a.m. on Zoom. Evening Prayer is offered Monday-Friday also on Zoom. . Choral Evensong and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament Choral Evensong is a sung offering of Evening Prayer led by the Choir. Benediction is a devotion liturgy to our Lord Jesus Christ in his Sacramental Presence, in which the Consecrated Host is exposed in a monstrance and with which the priest blesses the congregation. Choral Evensong and Benediction together normally last about forty-five minutes. Often an organ recital will be offered at 3:30 p.m. on those Sundays, preceding Evensong. The Holy Rosary: Offered the second Sunday of the month immediately following the organ postlude after the 11 a.m. Mass. This is a meditative devotion on events in the lives of Jesus and Mary, using a string of prayer beads, in which the traditional prayers Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be are repeated. The repetition of prayers is an ancient method of meditation used by many of the world’s religions. The Rosary lasts about 20 minutes. |
