Worship at Ascension
“Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.”This line from the Psalms reveals the heart of the matter for us at Church of the Ascension. Our worship and music, both in-person and during these times, virtual, are decidedly traditional. Even so, we aspire to nourish and inform the faith of Christians in today's world.
Newcomers may particularly want to know that...
The 1979 Book of Common Prayer provides the basis for all of our worship. Rites are often enriched by elements particular to Anglo-Catholic tradition and practice: incense, Gregorian chant, processions, the rosary, and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. View recent prayers and readings..
The all-professional Ascension Choir sings from Michalemas in early fall through the Feast of Corpus Christi in early summer. A four-voice Schola chants and offers motets throughout the summer months. Learn about our music program. Join us in reverence, beauty and contemplation. When a father asked his nine-year-old daughter about her first visit to our 90-minute Solemn High Mass, she said, “Oh, it was like being in heaven.” That’s not an uncommon first response, for those of any age, to our worship and music at Ascension. Those who have taken part at Ascension for years still value the sense that they have been touched by the holy. If you've never attended mass at Church of the Ascension, please read our welcome message to know what to expect.
